原歌词一韵到底，译成英文也尽量如此。具体来说，不仅想英文本身一韵到底，而且竭力再现原有的韵，即用英语的/ə/音对应中文的汉语拼音e，这样在形式上更贴近原来的歌词，演唱起来也就更接近原歌曲。
可是，真正到了译的时候却发现很难。譬如“我歌唱每一座高山，我歌唱每一条河”一句，按字面译可以是“I sing of each mountain; I sing of each river”，而后一句“袅袅炊烟，小小村落，路上一道辙”的末尾可以译为“a rut left by the driver”。这样，river和driver就对应上了。
然而，把“我歌唱每一座高山，我歌唱每一条河”译成“I sing of each mountain; I sing of each river”，与原文是有出入的，因为原词“我歌唱每一座高山，我歌唱每一条河”中的“每一座高山”和“每一条河”是特指的，即祖国的山河。
为此，可将原词译为“I sing of each of your mountains; I sing of each of your rivers”，但短短一个句子用了两个of，不美，于是改成“I sing of all your mountains; I sing of all your rivers”。还好，带了/ə/音。
还有一处感觉有必要说一下，即“袅袅炊烟，小小村落，路上一道辙”。其中的"村落”没有使用village等词，而是选用了更具体的表达cottage。另外，原歌词中唯有这一句不是完整的句子，考虑到英文的行文习惯，就将它揉成了一句。
